    request assistance with genealogical and archival research in Kolkata. I am searching for information about my great-grandfather, who departed from Calcutta (Kolkata) in 1890 as an indentured laborer to Suriname (South America). I have his contract/registration number from the Surinamese side; however, the corresponding register in Suriname is missing, which means I cannot find his place of origin in India. I am seeking your professional help to: Examine relevant archives or record offices in Kolkata and identify his original place of residence in India. I will be in Kolkata at the end of December, and would be happy to meet in person if that is convenient. However, it would also be very helpful if research could begin earlier if possible.
